Eastern Canadian White PineWith Eastern Canadian White Pine (Pinus strobus), the logs are "through sawn" (unlike Scandinavian Pine). The Sawyer at the mill is cutting for yield not grade. The whole log is cut to produce 1" boards (like slicing bread) and then the boards are graded later. We carry three grades:- - "Clears" which are "D" Select and Better
- "Knotty" the most popular grade by far; Number 3 Common & Better (the majority being a No 2 & Btr)
- "Low Grade" Number 4 Common
Lower grades than this are produced but they are seldom required by this market. For the most part our White Pine is used in up-market Reproduction Pine furniture. Although Fireplace surrounds, shelving and staircase work are also important end uses. Examples: | White PineD Select & Better | | White PineNo. 3 Common & Better | | White Pine No. 4 Common |
